Club News
The season has begun and here’s the news on a couple of events about which people have been curious.
Monday Members’ Night will officially begin tomorrow, June 20, at 5:00. This year’s format is a nine hole skins game (no handicaps required). There is no need to pre-register either. Show up and play. Prize money for this season is $200 to the winner, $100 for second place, and $50 for third. This was a very successful weekly event last year, so we’d love to see our members attend.
The annual President’s Cup Match Play will be held again this year with a few alterations. First and foremost, we will adhere very closely to timelines to get matches played this year. Registration for the match play tournament open today and closes next Sunday, June 26, after which a draw will be created and a tournament bracket published to the site (http://crowbush.wordpress.com). Depending on numbers, we will try to host a double-elimination (or single elimination if numbers are high) tournament to crown this year’s champion. Due to the brevity of our summer, however, and in fairness to all players, we will be very strict with timelines. Players will have one week to arrange and play matches. Failure to do so will result in a coin toss by yours truly and all decisions are final. Consideration will be given to players who were available to play but were postponed because of opponent’s failure to meet deadlines. Registration opens immediately and will be closed on Sunday, June 26th. The schedule (including players’ names, e-mails, and phone numbers) will be released June 26 and our first matches should be in the books by Sunday, July 3. Please e-mail me to confirm registration AND include your name, e-mail address, RCGA handicap (very important), and contact numbers.
King of Clubs Senior Tour
Again in 2011, the King of Clubs will sponsor its yearly tour. It also sponsors an annual mixed tournament. Please access the documents below to check out this year’s early offerings:
Almost Here…
Winter’s over and golf season is quickly approaching. According to Ryan Garrett, the course weathered the winter well.
- The new greens that were done last year look good and the dune that was damaged on 16 is repaired.
- There are a few trees down, most notably the big one on 7 across the water.
- Almost all the bridges have been repaired and the new canteen will be ready to go on opening day.
- The GPS system was installed and will be ready to go when the course opens (the plan is to open May 20).
Also, we have some information on the year’s first tournament, the Marlin Classic, which will be held at Stanhope on Saturday, May 28. It is an annual fundraiser for Morell High. Details can be found at the Morell High website (http://morellhigh.wordpress.com/) and you will find a downloadable entry form at http://morellhigh.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/entryform2011.pdf.
- If you are no longer a member of the Crowbush Members Association, please let me know and your name will be removed from our mailing list.
- If you are aware of members who do not receive messages, please have them send me an e-mail at icoffin@eastlink.ca and we’ll add them to the list.
That’s it for now. See you in May!
